← SOMEONESBOT?

The docs.

Everything you need to set up SomeonesBot? and make it yours. Almost every feature can be changed per server with /config, and /permissions decides who can use what.

01 · GETTING STARTED

Getting started

Coming soon. The bot isn't open to new servers yet. When it launches, the Add to Discord button on the home page will invite it with the permissions it needs.
  1. Invite the bot. Use Add to Discord and pick your server. You need the Manage Server permission to add bots.
  2. Move its role up. In Server Settings → Roles, drag the SomeonesBot? role above the roles it should be able to moderate or hand out.
  3. Run /help. It opens an interactive menu of every command, or shows details for one command.
  4. Set things up. Use /config for settings and /welcome setup for welcome messages. The quick setup below covers the most common ones.

Quick setup

Paste these one at a time, swapping in your own channels and roles:

/welcome setup channel:#welcome message:Welcome {user} to {server}!
/config set setting:modLogChannel value:#mod-logs
/config set setting:logChannel value:#server-logs
/config set setting:automodEnabled value:true
/config add setting:bannedWords value:badword1, badword2
/levelrewards add level:10 role:@Active
/config set setting:warnThresholdTimeout value:3

02 · CONFIGURATION

Configuration

SomeonesBot? has 63 per-server settings. Change any of them with /config set setting:<name> value:<value>. Setting names and values autocomplete. Use none to clear a value and \n for a new line.

COMMANDWHAT IT DOES
/config view [category]Show settings by category
/config set setting valueChange a setting
/config add · /config removeAdd or remove items in list settings (e.g. banned words, auto-roles)
/config reset settingReset one setting, or all
/config info settingExplain a setting with its default and current value
/config export · /config import fileDownload or upload all settings as a JSON file
/commands disable · enable · listTurn commands, or whole categories, off or on

All of these need the Manage Server permission (or a permission rule).

03 · PERMISSIONS

The permissions system

Admins decide exactly which roles can use which commands. A rule can cover a whole category, one command, or one subcommand, and can allow a role (even without the Discord permission the command normally needs) or deny it.

How every command checks access

  1. Bot owner only? Only the bot owner can use /owner.
  2. Disabled? Commands turned off with /commands disable are blocked, except for Administrators. /config, /permissions, /commands and /help can't be disabled.
  3. Administrator? Always allowed.
  4. Role rules from /permissions. The most specific rule wins (subcommand, then command, then category), and deny beats allow.
  5. Normal Discord permission listed for the command on the commands page.

Commands

COMMANDWHAT IT DOES
/permissions allow target roleLet a role use a command, even without its permission
/permissions deny target roleBlock a role from a command
/permissions clear target [role]Remove rules
/permissions listView every rule

These need the Administrator permission.

Examples

/permissions allow target:ban role:@Moderators
# Mods can ban without the Ban Members permission
/permissions allow target:category:moderation role:@Mods
# Mods can use every moderation command
/permissions deny target:category:images role:@Muted
# Muted members can't use image commands
/permissions allow target:tag create role:@Helpers
# Helpers can create tags (just that subcommand)
Can't see the command after allowing a role? Discord hides moderation commands from members without the permission. If you allow a role, also allow the command for that role under Server Settings → Integrations → SomeonesBot?.

04 · MODERATION

Moderation and cases

Ban (including timed bans that lift themselves, and bans on users who already left), kick, timeout for up to 28 days, warn, purge up to 100 messages with filters, lock and unlock channels, set slowmode, change nicknames and give or take roles. The full list with permissions is on the commands page.

Cases

Every moderation action gets a numbered case, is posted to your mod-log channel (modLogChannel), and the member gets a DM. View a case with /case view and fix its reason with /case reason.

Searching the history

/modlogs searches the server's whole moderation history. Combine any of these filters: user, moderator, type, reason (text), active_warnings_only and page. It works for users who already left.

Warnings and automatic punishments

Members are DM'd when warned. You can have the bot punish automatically after a number of warnings:

SETTINGWHAT IT DOES
warnThresholdTimeoutWarnings before an automatic timeout
warnTimeoutDurationHow long that timeout lasts
warnThresholdKickWarnings before an automatic kick
warnThresholdBanWarnings before an automatic ban

Manage warnings with /warnings, /delwarn and /clearwarns.

Punishment DMs

Turn DMs on or off with dmOnPunish and write your own with punishDmMessage, using {action}, {reason}, {duration}, {moderator} and the other placeholders. Set requireReason to make moderators give a reason.

Safety rules

  • You can't act on yourself, the server owner, the bot, or anyone with an equal or higher role.
  • You can only hand out roles below your own.

05 · LEVELING

Leveling and rank cards

Members earn XP for chatting. By default each message earns between 15 (xpMin) and 25 (xpMax) XP, at most once every 60 seconds (xpCooldown). Speed it up or slow it down with xpMultiplier, and stop XP in certain places with noXpChannels and noXpRoles.

Rank cards and leaderboard

/rank shows a generated rank card with the member's avatar, rank, level and progress bar. /leaderboard lists the top members by XP. Every member can personalize their own card with /rankcard color, /rankcard background and /rankcard reset, and it works in every server. Servers set the default look with rankCardColor and rankCardBackground.

Level-up messages

Turn them on or off with levelUpMessages, send them to one channel with levelUpChannel, and write your own with levelUpMessage using {level} and {xp}.

Role rewards

/levelrewards add level role gives a role automatically when a member reaches that level. stackRewards decides whether members keep earlier reward roles.

Managing XP

/xp add, remove, set-level, reset and reset-all need Manage Server. XP only resets if an admin uses them. Turn leveling off entirely with levelingEnabled.

06 · WELCOME

Welcome messages and images

The quickest way to start is /welcome setup channel [message] [image]. Preview it with /welcome test (and /welcome test-leave for the leave message), or turn it off with /welcome disable.

Welcome cards

Welcome cards are generated images with the member's round avatar, a big title, their name and member number. Change them with welcomeImage (on/off), welcomeImageTitle, welcomeImageSubtitle, welcomeImageColor and welcomeImageBackground for your own background image.

Everything else

  • Welcome message: welcomeEnabled, welcomeChannel, welcomeMessage
  • Welcome DM: welcomeDm, welcomeDmMessage
  • Leave message: leaveEnabled, leaveChannel, leaveMessage
  • Auto-roles for new members: autoRoles, and autoRolesBots for bots

All the messages can use placeholders like {user}, {server} and {memberCount}.

07 · AUTOMOD

Automod

Turn it on with /config set setting:automodEnabled value:true, then pick what it blocks:

SETTINGBLOCKS
antiInviteDiscord invite links
antiLinkAny link, except sites in linkWhitelist
bannedWordsWords you list (add them with /config add)
capsPercentMessages that are mostly CAPS
mentionLimitMass mentions
spamLimitMessage spam

automodAction decides what happens: delete, warn or timeout (for automodTimeout). Skip channels or roles with automodIgnoredChannels and automodIgnoredRoles.

08 · LOGGING

Logging

Pick a channel with logChannel, then turn each kind of log on or off:

SETTINGLOGS
logMessageDeleteDeleted messages
logMessageEditEdited messages
logMemberJoinMembers joining
logMemberLeaveMembers leaving
logMemberUpdateRole and nickname changes
logChannelsChannel changes
logRolesRole changes
logVoiceVoice activity

Leave channels out of the logs with logIgnoredChannels. Moderation actions go to the separate modLogChannel. Logs are posted to your log channel only; message content isn't stored by the bot.

09 · TOOLS

Button roles, polls, games and more

🔘 Button roles

Build self-assign role panels with up to 25 buttons: /buttonroles create, then /buttonroles add and /buttonroles remove. Needs Manage Roles.

📊 Polls

/poll create question [options] [duration] [multiple] posts a button poll with live result bars. Add a duration to end it automatically, or turn on multiple to let people pick more than one option. /poll end ends it early (the poll's creator, or anyone with Manage Messages).

⏰ Reminders and AFK

/remind me in message sets a personal reminder from 10 seconds to 1 year away; /remind list and /remind delete manage them. /afk [reason] marks you AFK, and anyone who pings you is told. Servers can turn AFK off with afkEnabled.

🏷️ Tags

Tags are saved responses. Anyone can use /tag show, /tag list and /tag info, and they also work in chat as !name (change the ! with tagPrefix). /tag create, edit and delete need Manage Messages.

💡 Suggestions

Set suggestionChannel, then members post ideas with /suggest new and they get vote reactions (suggestionReactions). Staff answer with /suggest approve, deny or consider, and the author gets a DM.

🎉 Games and fun

Play /tictactoe with buttons against a member or the bot, /rps (rock paper scissors), and /trivia with answer buttons. /wouldyourather asks a question with live voting, and /ship makes a compatibility image with a heart meter and ship name. There's also /meme (safe-for-work, with a Next meme button), /joke, /fact, /rate, /coinflip, /animal (cat, dog or fox) and /action for GIF reactions like hug, pat and fist-bump. None of them need a permission, and you can turn the whole category off with /commands disable.

🧰 Handy extras

/calc, /random (roll, coinflip, choose, number, 8ball), /timestamp, /emoji, /embed, /say, and image fun with /image effect and /color. See them all on the commands page.

10 · PLACEHOLDERS

Message placeholders

Use these in welcome, leave, level-up and punishment messages. They're swapped for the real values when the message is sent.

PLACEHOLDERBECOMES
{user}Mention of the member
{user.name}Display name
{user.username}Username
{user.id}User ID
{server}Server name
{memberCount}Member count
{level}, {xp}In level-up messages
{action}, {reason}, {duration}, {moderator}In punishment DMs
/config set setting:levelUpMessage value:GG {user}, you reached level {level}!

11 · FAQ

FAQ

When can I add it to my server?

SomeonesBot? is coming soon. When it launches, the Add to Discord button on this site will go live.

Why can't I see the moderation commands?

Discord hides them unless you have the permission. Ask an admin, or they can allow your role with /permissions (and under Server Settings → Integrations → SomeonesBot?).

How do I change the bot's color in my server?

/config set setting:embedColor value:#FF66CC

Can I turn off leveling?

/config set setting:levelingEnabled value:false

Can I turn off a command?

/commands disable name:<command>, or a whole category like category:images.

Does XP reset?

Only if an admin uses /xp reset or /xp reset-all.

Where's my data stored?

In the bot's own database: settings, cases, XP, tags, reminders and polls. No message content is stored (logs are posted to your log channel only).

The bot can't ban or kick someone.

Move the bot's role above that member's highest role in Server Settings → Roles.

Can I move my settings to another server?

Yes. /config export downloads every setting as a JSON file, and /config import loads it in the other server.
